Food...

As some of you know, for most of the month of March, the members of this family have been sick in various combinations -- Miranda & Luc, Luc & Daddy, then Miranda & Luc again, Luc & Miranda & Mommy, and now Miranda & Mommy. We've been upping our intake of liquids and resting a lot. Soups and juices are high on the list.

Today, I made some egg drop soup with rice noodles for lunch. Luc turned it down. No surprise there. Miranda had been finicky about food all day today, just munching on little things like strawberries, pieces of crescent rolls, banana chips, dried pineapple, so I expected her to turn it down too. I put a little in a bowl for her and left it on the table. Always curious about food, she pulled up a little blue chair and stood on it. She stirred the soup around a little bit, not trying it at all. I turned around and went back to finishing an email.
Suddenly I heard, "Mmmmm...soup." I looked back and she was scooping it into her mouth saying, "Mmm..." after each spoonful! So cute. And when she was done, she said, "Good...soup...more." I gave her more of my soup (I hadn't made much), and on went the "Mmm..."

Meanwhile, her brother was sitting at the futon watching FoodTV. He's a picky eater who doesn't like to try new foods, but he'll sit all day and watch other people make and enjoy food. The Food Network comes second only to TreehouseTV (the 24 hour kids' show network) in his books. His favourite shows are Rachel Ray's 30-minute-meals, Rachel Ray's Tasty Travels, Barefoot Contessa (he was particularly excited about her double ovens), and Easy Italian with Giada De Laurentiis. I think he even loved Nigella Bites at one point in time. Oh, and he's all excited about barbequing with his Daddy again because he's been seeing the previews of Rob Rainford's License to Grill, which starts up again in April.
