She can read!!!

Okay, we only have one data point, but it was notable.

Miranda was sitting on Daddy's lap, while he and Luc played an old arcade game on the computer. When the stats came up, she pointed to a word on the screen and muttered something I couldn't hear from where I was standing.

Daddy turned to me with an awed look and said, "She just read the word 'coin'".

Her brother hadn't said anything that she could repeat, and there were no pictures of coins on the screen. Just the word "COIN". We see no other alternative other than *she can read*!

If she really can read, we must be doing something right. Just like we did with her brother at her age (and continue to do), we read to Miranda at night and at any other time she asks to have her books read to her. We also watch educational tv together like "Between the Lions" and "Sesame Street", and we encourage by saying the various letter sounds out loud, no matter how foolish we look.

It certainly helps that our kids are more on the calm side and have relatively good focus. They interact with people really well also. Oh, and they are quite net savvy. :-)

Okay, I'm a proud mom. What else is new?! :-)

Oh, and our son read the dictionary for about 10 minutes yesterday morning. Seriously.
